Structural Integration
60Structural Integration is a form of deep tissue bodywork that balances your physical structure with gravity. Developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf, the work is popularly known as Rolfing. Structural Integration uses deep tissue manipulation to systematically unwind tension patterns from head to toe. It is performed in a ten session cycle of work that clients attend usually on a weekly basis. Sessions are from one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes in duration.
Structural Integration works with the body's myofascial tissues. This includes the muscles and the connective tissues. Connective tissue includes the tendons, ligaments, and the thin layers of fascia that wrap and weave through the muscles. Connective tissue is extremely responsive to stress, accidents, aging, and poor movement patterns, and over time become compressed, twisted, and more dense. By applying direct pressure on these tissues, the compression and twisting can be released, restoring a more free pattern in the myofascial structures.
Some of the potential benefits of the work include more fluid movements, relief of pain, stiffness, and tension, a feeling of lightness and ease in the body, more energy, and more resiliance and resistance to injury. Many people come for treatments, including athletes, people looking for pain relief, musicians and other performers, people seeking personal growth, students of yoga, and others.
